The problem of the budget deficit has reached toilet paper. “I don’t think we can continue to shop on the subway with boxes of toilet paper before the holidays because we’re losing money. Let’s be more frugal,” said Marcel Bolosh, Minister of Finance, in his speech. on Digi24.
He reminded that a budget deficit target of 5.5% of GDP was agreed with the European Commission for 2023, while the Budget Law provides for 4.4%.
“This means a deviation of almost one percent from the convergence program adopted with the European Commission,” said Bolos.
According to him, strict expenditure control is needed so as not to create problems with European programs from European funds next year.
“November and December traditionally produce a 2% GDP deficit,” he said, implying that the deficit will increase by this percentage.
It will be recalled that in September the budget deficit amounted to 3.55% of GDP.
The government has prepared a draft order according to which budget expenditures at the end of the year will not increase significantly due to the reduction of budget expenditures in November and December to the average of the first 10 months of 2023.
