
Last year, global car production rose by five million units to 68 million, with China the largest market, accounting for a third of the total, ACEA figures show. There have been interesting changes in the top.
Globally, 68 million units were produced, compared to 63 million in 2021, with the growth significant: 8%, according to data from ACEA – the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers.
China remained in first place with 23.1 million vehicles, accounting for 34% of global production. The USA produced 7 million cars, Japan – 6.6 million. In 2021, Japan was in second place, but the US increased production by 11% while Japan stagnated.
India saw a significant increase of 21% to over 4.3 million vehicles, while South Korea surpassed 3.4 million, with Hyundai and Kia having exceptionally good years.
In Germany, 3.33 million cars were produced, which is 13% more than in 2021.
In the last 20 years, the best years for global car production were 2018 and 2019, and the worst was 2009.
In terms of registrations, the total number of vehicles registered in the world last year remained unchanged at 66 million vehicles, with 12.8 million in Europe, 12.7 million in North America, 34 million in Asia and 1.5 million in South America.
