Russia accused Ukraine on Sunday of a failed attempt to attack a Russian ship using six high-speed naval drones while the Russian ship was on a patrol mission near major gas pipelines in the Black Sea, Reuters reported.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Priazov ship was “monitoring the situation and ensuring security on the routes of the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream gas pipelines in the southeastern part of the Black Sea.”
The Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine attacked the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula about 300 km southeast of Sevastopol early Sunday.
At the time of the attack, the American unmanned reconnaissance aircraft RQ-4 Global Hawk was in the central part of the Black Sea, the Ministry of Defense reported.
“The ship “Priazovya” of the Black Sea Fleet continues to perform its assigned tasks,” the Ministry of Defense reported.
Russia and Turkey officially launched Turkish Stream with a capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters per year in January 2020. The pipeline, which allows Moscow to bypass Ukraine as a transit route to Europe, transports Russian natural gas to southern Europe via the Black Sea and Turkey.
The Blue Stream pipeline supplies Russian gas to Turkey.
