A 37-year-old Romanian man arrived at the hospital in critical condition after a homemade bomb he tried to make at home exploded, severing both of his hands, Italian media reported.

A man tried to create an explosive device in the attic of the house where he lived in Italy on Saturday, regional daily Corriere Adriatico reported, as cited by Libertatea.

A loud explosion took place at around 1pm on Saturday at a building in Apsella, a village halfway between Montelabbate and Vallefoglia, sparking unrest among Italians who live next door to Romania.

After the explosion, the rescuers tried to stop his heavy bleeding for more than an hour, the detonation caused the amputation of both upper limbs. In addition, the man has severe burns on his legs and torso.

The Italian press reports that the young man, whose name is Ion Olteanu, settled in Italy a year ago, where he came to live with his sister and nephews.

The explosion of a home-made bomb damaged the apartment where they lived, but no one was injured, except for a 37-year-old man, his relatives are missing.

Now the victim is fighting between life and death in the hospital in Ancona.

Now the carabinieri are trying to find out where he got the materials needed to make the bomb, and what the man’s goal was.

According to the first information, the Romanian has not yet been caught by the police, but they are still checking whether he had a criminal past.
