President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi that there can be no “nuclear security” in Ukraine without the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which they have occupied for more than a year.

“Without the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and Russian personnel from the station and adjacent territories, any initiative aimed at restoring nuclear security is doomed to failure,” Zelensky said.

Grossi is expected to travel to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in the coming days, his second visit since the start of the Russian invasion.

Zelensky and the Director General of the IAEA met this morning at a hydroelectric power station in the Zaporozhye region, where the Ukrainian president went “to the front line” of the Southern Front.

“Your role in ensuring the energy security of Ukraine is extremely important today,” Zelensky Grossi said, according to the Ukrainian president.

The two leaders visited a hydroelectric site on the Dnieper River that supplies electricity to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, which has been taken over by the Russian military and is experiencing regular power outages.

“They have been briefed on the measures taken to protect the Dniprovska Hydroelectric Power Plant in the event of further (Russian) attacks,” the Ukrainian president said in a press release that said infrastructure in the area was “largely destroyed.”

“I had a rich conversation with Zelensky about protecting ‘space’ and its workers,” Grossi tweeted, along with a photo of the two men.

Earlier, Zelensky wrote in a Telegram message: “Zaporozhye region. Front row seats. It is a great honor for me to be here today with our soldiers, ”accompanying his message with a video in which he awards soldiers with medals.

“Thank you for protecting our state and all of us. Thank you for protecting our homes, our territorial integrity and life in Ukraine,” the Ukrainian president said in a statement.

The President of Ukraine also visited an apartment building in the city of Zaporozhye, where a Russian attack killed one person and injured three others last Wednesday.

According to the president, he also visited a military hospital, where he spoke with the wounded and medical personnel.
