The reservoir was located in Surazh in the north of the Bryansk region, which borders the north-east of Ukraine.

“Fire and rescue units are working on the spot,” Governor Oleksandr Bogomaz said on his Telegram channel. The fire spread to an area of 1,800 square meters, Bogomaz said.

There are no reports of casualties, he added. He did not name the potential cause of the fire.

Reuters could not immediately verify the information.

On Tuesday night, the governor of Russia’s Kursk region — south of Bryansk and on the border with Ukraine — said Ukrainian forces had struck a power plant, causing some power outages.
