Suspect in murder of five people in Raleigh, North Carolina USAis a 15-year-old teenager, local authorities said today, specifying that he was hospitalized in critical condition.

The victims were three women aged 52, 49 and 35, a 29-year-old police officer on duty and a 16-year-old boy, according to city police chief Estella Patterson.

The attacker injured two other people, including a police officer who was released from the hospital after receiving first aid. A 59-year-old woman was also injured and is in critical condition.

A 15-year-old teenager opened fire for unknown reasons shortly after 17:00 local time on the streets of the Headingham area. Authorities urged residents to stay at home as police launched a hours-long manhunt for the suspect, who was eventually found in an apartment building next to a walkway. It is not yet known how he obtained the weapons he used.

Patterson did not name the suspect or say how he was injured. He also failed to say whether the attacker knew or had any relationship with his victims.

This morning, streets in the area were still cordoned off by police and patrol cars were parked outside many houses, according to footage broadcast on local TV channels.
