The executive in Berlin has set up a holding company to be able to nationalize the former German subsidiary of Russian state-owned Gazprom, a unit that the Russian giant abandoned in April, in the event of an emergency, Welt am Sonntag reported, citing Reuters. and news.ro.

Germany’s energy regulator said in April it would operate the trading, storage and transportation company in the interests of Germany and Europe.

Under the name Securing Energy for Europe Holding GmbH, the holding is responsible for the company’s investments, the newspaper reported citing a government document.

Two lawyers from the law firm CMS Hasche Sigle are managing directors, the publication added.

CMS Hasche Sigle declined to comment on the information, citing confidentiality obligations.

Germany’s economy ministry said it was aware of the holding company and that its creation was a precautionary measure against any restructuring measures.

“It is an institution created as a precautionary measure that currently only exists as a shell of corporate law,” a ministry spokesman told Welt am Sonntag.
