According to the sentence handed down by the military court of Bucharest, the 49-year-old paramedic, who has the rank of deputy platoon commander in the emergency inspection “Dealul Spirii” of Bucharest – Ilfov, received 5 years of imprisonment for sexual assault in a prolonged form, 3 months in prison for illegal access to a computer system and one year in prison for tampering with the integrity of computer data.

After combining the sentences, the military court sentenced him to 5 years and 5 months of imprisonment. In addition, the paramedic is prohibited from holding public positions for three years after serving the sentence. Also, for three years after leaving prison, he is prohibited from approaching the victim at a distance of less than 100 meters.

The victim did not receive compensation. She did not ask the court for damages, but only for the punishment of the aggressor. Sentencing, judges told the 35-year-old woman that she could apply for a European protection order against her attacker after he was released from prison.

The decision handed down on Thursday by the military court in Bucharest is not final and may be appealed.

The man, Claudio Giorgise Delchiu, has been under house arrest since last August.

The patient was sexually assaulted both at home and in the ambulance

The non-commissioned officer was charged after a female patient who arrived at Elias Hospital on the night of June 8, 2023, complained that a SMURD officer touched her in private parts and made sexual gestures both at home and in an ambulance . She told the investigators that she could not react due to her poor health.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the paramedic’s deviant behavior was also observed by two other crew members. One of them caught a man “massaging the patient’s breast with an ice cube.” On the way to the hospital, he was allowed to ride next to the patient, even though it was the work of the team leader.

According to the indictment, two of the paramedic’s colleagues silently accepted the hypothesis that the paramedic might have sexually assaulted the patient on the way to the hospital while having fun. When the ambulance driver noticed that the light was off in the passenger compartment and his colleague was not in the seat, he asked the colleague on the right: “What is Delcha doing there (the defendant paramedic is not)?”.

“The witness (crew commander – no) looked into the patient room and told him that the defendant Delciu Claudio Georgice was ‘sucking’ the injured person, putting ice on her ‘body, breasts and nipples.’ After learning that the patient had notified the authorities, Paramedic Delchiu stole the video from the video camera located inside the ambulance and deleted it, believing that this would avoid criminal prosecution, prosecutors said.
