Return of the heat engine

In fact, sales of zero-emission models in some European countries, particularly Germany, have tended to stagnate for several months. And the reason is simple: in December of last year, the country suddenly stopped subsidizing electric cars. This decision had a significant impact on the market, as potential buyers were discouraged by the lack of financial support, which contributed to the stagnation of sales. In addition to the end of subsidies, the image of electric cars plays a decisive role. “Stromer” (the German term for electric cars) has a bad reputation. Concerns about limited battery life, recharge time, and availability charging stations consumer enthusiasm faded. Car manufacturers had to react to maintain their sales and significantly increased the offer of thermal models in their respective catalogs.

A popular heat engine

According to the research of Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, an automotive expert from Bochum, manufacturers such as Volkswagen, BMW and Stellantis intensified efforts to increase sales of gasoline and diesel models. Discounts on the purchase of thermal cars are even higher than on electric cars. The higher rate of return on internal combustion engines particularly favors this strategy. And it is not for nothing that electric cars bring only low profits or even losses to brands. In the context of the current economic crisis, they are quite interested in using internal combustion engines, which are still profitable. Thus, according to Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, the electric car industry is not being destroyed by car manufacturers, but by government decisions. This explains why petrol and diesel cars should last a long time.

And this trend is observed almost everywhere in Europe, but to varying degrees.
