An inspection body sent to the Porta Alba penitentiary in Constanta found that procedures had not been broken when Vlad Pascu was brought to trial in February. Justice Minister Alina Gorgiou decided to carry out the checks after prison union president Cosmin Dorobantsou accused the police of turning into “guardians of a drug addict who killed two innocent children”.

Inspections by the supervisory authority began on February 29.

“The control was carried out in connection with the information that appeared in the public space about how the employees of the National Administration of Penitentiary Institutions presented the specified person deprived of liberty to the court of Konstanz,” the message says. press release of the Ministry of Justice.

Vlad Pasku’s transfer from the penitentiary to the court took place in accordance with the law, the Control Body decided.

“Inspections carried out by the inspectors of the Control Corps regarding compliance with the provisions of the legislation regarding the escorting of persons deprived of their liberty to the headquarters of the judicial authorities, on the occasion of the presentation of the previously arrested Matei Vlad Paska to the Court of Constanta on 27.02.2024, revealed the fact that the escort procedure as a whole, and also the components regarding the disembarkation of persons deprived of liberty, the placement of escort personnel around the special vehicle and on the way to the entrance to the prison of the Palace of Justice corresponded to the legal provisions contained in Law no. 254/2013, Law No. 145/2019, Regulations on the Application of Law No. 254/2013 and Regulations on the Security of Places of Detention, a procedure which, moreover, was carried out similarly to those on the other two previous days, respectively 23 and February 26, 2024,” the previously mentioned source reported.

Regarding the allegations that the police helped Vlad Paska avoid being photographed by journalists, the Control Body states that “no actions, gestures or actions of the prison police were found to prevent the media representatives from taking images from the moment of the disembarkation of the accused Matej Vlad Paska and other pre-arrested persons , who observed, at the same time, the right to be as little visible as possible to the public, as provided for by the Recommendation of the Committee of Ministers of the Member States on the European Penitentiary Rules REC(2006)2,” the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.

At the end of February, Vlad Paska was taken to the Constanta court, where the judges decided to reject his appeal for preventive detention.

Then the president of the prison union accused Vlada Pascua of being protected by the police.

“We are worried that they are turning prison police officers into bodyguards for a drug addict who killed two innocent children. Why don’t prison police do this to all criminals? Why are some protected and others not?”, the president of the penitentiary trade union Kosmin Dorobantsu told “Obozrevatel”.

Immediately after that, the Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu, decided to send the control corps to the Porta Alba penitentiary.
