This decision caused a lot of ink. After the clash of “for” and “against” camps so finally won. For two wheels, technical inspection will be a mandatory stage.

Technical inspection schedule

There were a lot of inspections in the series twists and turns. If the measure was postponed several times, it was suspended by Emmanuel Macron. Many thought they would never hear of it again. But it was without counting on State Council which had the last word on this matter in renewing the obligations on October 31, 2022 to implement the famous inspection on two wheels.
This check will take place in several stages. For two-wheelers registered before January 1, 2017the first technical inspection must be completed from April 15 to December 31, 2024. For those registered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019, it will be in 2025. As for two-wheeled vehicles. registered from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021they will wait until 2026 before doing their first check.
There remains, however, another category – two-wheelers. registered since January 1, 2022. The latter must carry out their technical inspection during the six months preceding the five years of the first introduction into circulation.

After the initial inspection, all two-wheelers will have to undergo a technical inspection every three years.

What sensitive points will be monitored?

In general, the inspection will cover two-wheelers 77 exact points with 161 potential errors. From 2025, the latter will evolve to 78 control points and 165 potential failures (68 minor failures, 88 major failures and 9 critical failures). After the test is completed, the two-wheeler will be rated. Three are possible. Grade A means that the two-wheeled vehicle meets the requirements. THE means that anomalies have been detected and that a recheck will be required. Rated R will be reserved for two-wheelers that have not passed MOT.
The person responsible for control should check the following functions:
Vehicle identification
Braking equipment
Direction and visibility
Lights, reflective devices and electrical equipment
Axles, wheels, tires and suspension
Chassis and accessories that make it up
Other materials and nuisances.
