  • “The restoration of compulsory military service is necessary for our security.
  • Mr. Cholaku doesn’t know that you are obliged to be able to defend yourself for several months until NATO forces come to your aid.
  • In the event of an invasion, you must have an army that will allow you to resist for 45-60 days until NATO mobilizes military resources,” former president Triasn Basescu said on Digi 24 on Tuesday night.

He said that at one of the CSAT meetings, he accused the Prime Minister of treason, that is, treason, that is, cutting the defense budget.

When asked about the risk of Russia using nuclear weapons, the former president said that he does not believe in such a scenario now: “I don’t think that Putin is considering the possibility of using nuclear weapons now. I think that at least now, looking at the situation at the front in Ukraine, he has no reason.”

He said that at the same time, “Romania should not interfere where the cauldron is not boiling”, but should be very balanced:

  • “Romania should not respond to Putin when he talks about the nuclear arsenal. America responds.
  • The Americans took responsibility for Putin.”

When asked how he perceives Vladimir Putin now compared to when he knew him, the former president replied: “The same.” Basescu said he had a “communication relationship” with the Russian president.

He warned that Russia should be seen as the power that still dominates the Black Sea and repeated claims that Putin’s goal is to reach the mouth of the Danube because “then he can take Transnistria.”

  • “Thank God that Ukrainians are flocking, and we should thank Ukraine for the fact that Russia moved away from Odessa and the mouth of the Danube,” the former head of state also said.
