Former president Traian Basescu says that Nikušor Dan cannot be defeated in the local elections, even if PSD and PNL put forward a joint candidate.

Basescu assesses that the mandate of Nicosor Dan has been good but not extraordinary, praising in particular the work done in “Underground Bucharest” with the modernization of the heating network, the removal of cables from the poles and the improvement of traffic through one-way streets and roundabouts.

“Whatever they say about Nikushor, this man had the courage to enter underground Bucharest, which the mayors did not have the courage to do until now. They kept activity in the visible and neglected underground Bucharest. Ori Nikušor has invested a lot of money here and I believe that another mandate will make Bucharest have an acceptable underground infrastructure,” Besescu told Digi 24.

“Look, they are gone, and all the cables hanging from the pole have been run into underground communication channels. Important things are happening in Bucharest. Look, he has the guts to introduce unique values. Who would have thought that there would be a mayor who would have the courage to say: “Brothers, there is only one way in Dorobant.” Who would have thought? Look, Nikushor did it, and in many other places I see that the idea appears, and not only the idea, but the unique meaning is realized in practice, which greatly facilitates the movement of traffic,” the ex-mayor of the capital also stated.

“Cholaku is afraid of Firea that he will want to run for president”

Speaking about Gabriela Firea’s situation and her chances to run as a candidate for the capital city hall, Traian Basescu says that we are witnessing a strange situation when the best social democrat according to the polls is not running.

He claims that Çolaku is afraid that if he wins the post of mayor-general, Firea may then run for president and take over his party.
