An unprecedented dispute over control of the southern border between the state of Texas, which ordered Republican Governor Greg Abbott to install barbed wire fences to stem the flow of migrants, and US federal forces is intensifying in the US. the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden, which was authorized by the Supreme Court to intervene to remove these fences.

“We never got to the point where we are,” immigration attorney Haim Vazquez told CBS. “Never before the Texas National Guard, Department of Public Safety agents block entry and take over power or control of the border,” he said, according to Agerpres.

Last Monday, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US federal government has the authority to remove barbed wire fences along the southern border. The Department of Homeland Security then gave the state of Texas until Friday to allow federal authorities access to the border town of Eagle Pass. But Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton rejected the federal government’s request for border access.

In turn, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has promised to increase border patrols and install new barriers and barbed wire fences there. Since then, he has been supported by at least 25 Republican governors who affirm that the state of Texas has a constitutional right to self-defense. Greg Abbott assured that US states led by Republican governors agree to send troops to the Texas-Mexico border if necessary.

Among those backing Abbott is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has confirmed he is willing to send National Guard troops to Texas to help secure the border. “If we have to mobilize and guarantee the sovereignty of the country, then we have to do it, so you can count on my help from the state of Florida,” DeSantis said, according to EFE news agency.

DeSantis withdrew from the Republican presidential primary and is now supporting Donald Trump in that primary. The latter praised the governor of Texas for not allowing President Biden’s administration to remove barbed wire fences installed along a corridor used by migrants entering the United States illegally.

“Instead of going to war with border states, I will use all the tools and powers of the President of the United States to defend the United States in the face of this horrific invasion that is happening right now,” Trump said at a campaign rally.
