Senator Diana Sosoake had mixed accounts of the three-day protest that began on Sunday in front of Parliament House as if they were living in parallel worlds. In recent days, she tried to convince the public that she had nothing to do with the action, which received the permission of the capital’s mayor’s office, but insisted that people who subscribed to her on the networks took part in the action.
The capital’s mayor, Nikušor Dan, announced on Thursday that he had approved a three-day protest by farmers and transporters in Constitution Square, saying it would not affect traffic in Bucharest, as it would have if he had approved a protest in Victory Square.
Senator Diana Sosoake, president of the SOS Romania party, said on Friday that she had nothing to do with the notice of protest on behalf of farmers and transporters approved by Nikusor Dan. Sosoake said the request belongs to Mircea’s lawyer Bohdan Petre, who will not represent her or the party, and with whom he will have no contact.
- “What was approved has nothing to do with my request, it is the request of an individual, Bohdan Petre, who I understand was at City Hall yesterday after the discussions I had. He is not my lawyer! In order for him to be my lawyer, I must have a legal aid agreement, he is not a party lawyer!
- He has no relation, he is a natural person, he is a lawyer who campaigned for rights and freedoms for a very long time (…) I have no way to confiscate a protest that has already been confiscated by those who are PSD. and PNL members. Who did he go there to represent? Members of PSD, member of PNL Sector 4, member of PP-USL,” Soshoake said on B1TV.
However, on Saturday, the senator wrote a message on Facebook in which she “urgently” asked the participants of the raffle to send the identification data of the cars that will come to the parking lot in front of the People’s House.
“URGENTLY SEND REGISTRATION NUMBERS OF TRACTORS AND TRACTOR HEADS, SURNAMES, FIRST NAMES, TELEPHONE PHONES OF DRIVERS WHO WILL COME TO THE CONSTITUTION MARKET TO THE ELECTRONIC ADDRESS.
[email protected] and the days you will come 21, 22, 23 January 2024″ is a message written by Soșoacă on a red background.
She then posted a photo of herself and the logo of the party she founded after being kicked out of the AUR, saying she was not an organizer but “my voice counts”, trying to prove the protest was “independent”.
In another message posted Friday night, the AUR-listed senator wrote in all caps (an online link that suggests the author is shouting) that she had proof that she did not organize the demonstration.
“PROVE THIS IS NOT MY RALLY!
MY REQUEST WAS TO GIVE THEM VICTORIA SQUARE! REQUEST REJECTED!
If you do not have a notified rally, in the cases mentioned in Art. 339 of the Criminal Code, – criminal proceedings on the fact of obstructing traffic on public roads! – imprisonment from 3 months to 2 years or a fine!
STOP LYING TOILETS! ALLOW TELEVISION TOURS!
GOVERNMENT GO! HATS OFF! GRINDIAN’S HEAD!
GET THE MAFIA AWAY!
JOHANNIS DOWN,” wrote Sosoake.
Before “proving” that it was not her protest, the president of SOS Romania called on people to protest during an extraordinary session of the Senate, where after negotiations with the protesters, some emergency resolutions handed over to the government will be passed.
“MONDAY, JANUARY 22, 2024, 12:00, EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE SENATE AT THE REQUESTS OF FARMERS AND TRANSPORTERS, JUST AS I ASKED!
THE MEETING IN FRONT OF THE PARLIAMENT WAS ADOPTED DURING THE SESSION! GO OUTSIDE!”
According to Aktual24, Shoshoake published a post in which he credits his role as the organizer through a clip titled “Nikusor Dan approves our request,” but it was later deleted or changed.
Mircea’s lawyer Bohdan Petre, the organizer of the protest, said he submitted the protest request on his own behalf and that he “asked for the senator’s approval.”
- “Following the actions of the protesters on January 10, I noticed that they want to reach Bucharest. Being unprepared, on January 12, on the initiative of citizens, we formed an appeal to the commission in the capital city hall regarding the approval of the organization of the protest.
- On the 10th of January I signed the agreement and spoke with the senator, I asked her to accept if she agreed that I would forward the first request to her because I do not have the necessary tools to advance this protest.
- With this approach, we were invited to the committee. For certain reasons, the first request was rejected on January 16. On January 18, I made a second request, stating the conditions that must be met for this request to be accepted. I reformulated, indicated the location, number of people, schedule, program…
- I made the second request on my own. The commission found it acceptable and we started signing the protocol.
- In order not to politicize, (the second request) I did it on my own behalf. The senator said that she will not come to the protest and does not want to be equated with this protest, but she is checking her experience,” explained the lawyer of TV channel B1.
Mircea Bohdan Petre insisted that he does not want to politicize this protest and that he only wants to make a “civic gesture”.
He also said that on January 10 he applied for membership in SOS Romania, the party of Diana Soshoake, but he does not know if it was approved.
- “(…) I informed Ms. Sosoaz that this protest was approved. I asked her to publicize it because I don’t have the social media tools to publicize it.
- We mutually agreed and told her that I do not want to believe that she is involved and that the SOS party is politicizing this protest. He said that he will not come to the market,” said Mircea Bohdan Petre on Antena 3.
So far, only one flatbed tractor and one truck have been brought to the three-day protest by farmers and transporters, which began on Sunday at Constitution Square, although 200 vehicles have been authorized.
