Stefanos Tsitsipas could not repeat the performance of 2023 (he reached the final of the Australian Open) and stopped in the 1/8 finals of the competition in Melbourne, losing to Taylor Fritz.

Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Taylor Fritz in the Australian Open 2024 round

Tsitsipas (the 7th seed) lost after three hours of play to the American, ranked 12th in the ATP rankings, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Stefanos committed too many errors in the match at John Cain Arena (7 double faults, 33 unforced errors) and made fewer winning shots than his opponent (41-50).

Tsitsipas and Fritz also met in 2022 in Melbourne, at the same stage of the tournament, but then the Greek won 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Know:

• This is Taylor’s second victory over Stephanos in official competitions (the Greek defeated the American three times).

• Taylor Fritz will meet Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. The Serbian leads with a score of 8-0 in head-to-head matches.

• At the 2023 tournament, Tsitsipas was defeated by Djokovic in the final 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

Australian Open 2024 will be held from January 14 to 28. The reigning singles champions are Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenko.
