A man from Sri Lanka, who was wanted internationally after a crime committed in Bucharest in 1991, has been caught in Germany. The man is accused of killing another foreign citizen in a house in the capital, and then tied him up, wrapped his body in a carpet and threw it into Lake Morii.

According to Romanian police, a 52-year-old man from Sri Lanka, convicted of murder, was found in the city of Mers on Wednesday after exchanging information with the German Siren Bureau.

The man was internationally wanted since October 14, 2013, on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the Bucharest Court for murder.

According to the cited source, in December 1991, a Sri Lankan man killed another foreigner, then tied and wrapped him in a carpet from his house in Bucharest and transported him to the Krangashi district, throwing him into Lake Morii. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for his act.

“Currently, the judicial procedures regarding the execution of the European arrest warrant have been completed,” the police said.
