Novak Djokovic, the ATP number one, was named the best European athlete of the year in the 66th edition of the poll organized by the Polish news agency PAP.

Djokovic won with 178 points, in second place – Dutchman Max Westappen, Formula 1 world champion – 150 points, and Swede Armand Duplantis, world pole vaulter – 86 points.

Novak Djokovic (36 years old) won for the fifth time in this investigation, one of the oldest in the world, after victories in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2021.

Last year, Poland’s Iga Sviatek won, followed by Duplantis and Verstappen.

Two Romanians managed to win this investigation over time, gymnast Nadia Comaneci in 1976 and athlete Gabriela Szabo in 1999, Agerpres reports.
