​​Nicu Ceausescu was one of the three children of Ceausescu, Nicolae and Elena, the couple who ruled the fortunes of Romania in the period 1965-1989. Niku died on September 26, 1996 at the age of 45 in a hospital in Vienna from cirrhosis of the liver. After the revolution of 1989, Nika Ceausescu was accused of genocide, especially the grave murders and the undermining of the national economy.

On September 21, 1990, Nico Ceausescu was sentenced by the Bucharest Territorial Military Court to 20 years in prison for incitement to a particularly grave murder and to 5 years for failure to keep weapons and ammunition. The case was reviewed, on June 3, 1991, the legal qualification was changed, his sentence was reduced to 16 years of imprisonment.
