The works of the last season of his popular series Netflix very strange thingswere interrupted due to a writers’ strike.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer Brothers, said in a statement that “starting production is not possible given the current situation.” Writers Guild of America strike (Writers Guild of America).

The announcement was posted on the show’s official writers’ Twitter account, which provides fans with information about filming, cast, and story development. The writing of the script for the fifth and final season began in August 2022, shortly after the start of the fourth series of episodes.

“Message from the Duffer brothers. The writing (i.e. the script) doesn’t stop when filming starts. While we are excited to start production with our fantastic cast and crew, business continuity is not possible during this strike. We look forward to a fair deal soon so we can get back to work.”

Along with Stranger Things, the most rerun series of 2022, other productions from the popular streaming platform like Big Mouth and Cobra Kai are going on hiatus.

The union, which represents 11,500 television, film and entertainment writers, strikes mainly with streaming and the impact it has on the profession. With the advent of services like Disney+, Amazon, HBO Max, Netflix, Paramount, jobs have dwindled, and the “writer’s room” that existed on the web series of past decades is fading away. In addition, wages are unsatisfactory, and the big studios seem to be unable to find a middle ground in accordance with the requirements of the Union.

According to Variety, a writer’s weekly minimum income for the 2019-2020 season was $4,546. Specifically, they work on a product for an average of 29 weeks for $131,834 per year, or an average of 20 weeks for $90,920. For a writer-producer, the amount is $6,967 per week. According to the Union, writers of comedy-variety shows for streaming platforms do not have a minimum financial security.

On the other hand, the Motion Picture and Television Producers Association, which represents Hollywood studios, streaming services and production companies, says it requires screenwriters to stay on staff and get paid when they’re not working. “If something needs to be written, writers are hired, but that requires writers to be hired whether they are needed for the creative process or not.”

According to reports, this year’s strike is likely to last a year if both sides do not come to a decision within the next few months. The previous one, held in 2007-2008, lasted three months.
