After her split from Gerard Pique, Shakira was snapped tearfully saying goodbye to friends as she left Barcelona to move to Miami with her sons. Spanish media described the scenes as her “last farewell” to her old life before starting a new American chapter, writes The Sun.

The 46-year-old singer opted for a denim outfit as she and her two sons, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, made their way to board. Shakira announced this on Twitter:

• “I settled in Barcelona to give my children the stability we are now looking for in another part of the world, with family, friends and at sea.
• Today we begin a new chapter in our search for happiness.”

The star was supposed to move on January 3 with her two sons, but the trip was postponed due to the deteriorating health of the singer’s father.

The news of the departure is said to have upset Pique, who is “very upset” as he was only told “a few days ago” that his ex-partner would be moving to Miami with their two children.

Shakira’s lawyer Pilar Manet told Pique’s lawyer Ramon Tamborero in an official statement that the star is leaving for good. The singer would call the former Barcelona player to confirm the information, but he would be angry that he did not know the exact date of their departure. Spanish journalists say the two boys will start school in Florida on April 11, the day American students return to school after spring break.

Pique revealed he was dating 24-year-old Clara Chia Marti shortly after he and Shakira announced their split. In November, the former couple confirmed that they had finally reached a custody agreement. They signed the agreement in court in Barcelona next month. As part of the deal, Pique will spend the holidays with his children.
