At the same time, the service document indicates that two station chiefs were constantly at the station for one hour, since the day shift began at 11 am, and the night shift chief began work at 10 am. The light of the publicity lies in the fact that the Nea Poron stationmaster allegedly told the Larissa stationmaster via intercom that the commercial train was leaving the descent towards Athens at 23:04, exactly 17 minutes before the fatal collision, which means that, as a rule, the previous stationmaster’s service was over and he could not correct his colleague’s mistake.

However, the head of the Larisa station, in his apologies, argued that, based on the charter of the service, that night and until 23:00 there should have been other colleagues in the area with him – from the program it follows that another one should be present. and no more – and who, according to him, fled the scene earlier and left him alone, which is to be clarified by the investigation of the prosecution.

Same error

However, it is characteristic that an hour before the tragedy, the head of the station allegedly again made the same mistake with the suburban train, which, fortunately, was corrected when the engineer realized this. Changes in the specific management of the station, as “K” is known, have been formed at least since 2016 according to the same model. That is, on the night shift there was a station chief with a half-hour joint service with the second station chief, which today reached one hour. As a result, the presence of a single station manager, combined with the chronic pathologies of the Greek railway, became fatal for a tragic accident with dozens of deaths.
