Wing Commander Pericles Oikonomou was commander of the 28th Tactical Air Force (which became what we know today as ATA – Tactical Aviation Headquarters) during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. During the military crisis in Cyprus, he came face to face with the frivolity and ultimately destructive attitude towards Hellenism of the regime of Ioannidis, who ultimately preferred to leave Cyprus undefended by air, and he himself directed all his forces not against the Turks. , but against Makarios and his supporters.
