The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Ihor Grosu, who was present in Bucharest on Sunday at the performance dedicated to the Day of National Culture, said that there is no immediate threat of escalation of the conflict in Transnistria, reports Agerpres.

These clarifications came after Igor Grosa was asked about the situation in the region in the context of statements made in December by the director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Mustiatse, who said that Russia was planning an invasion of Transnistria.

“Mr. Director referred to the analyzes that are being conducted, and the basis of these analyzes were several statements of the generals of the army of the Russian Federation. Some maps were even presented, and on these maps the intention to advance in the direction of Mykolaiv, Odesa with access to Transnistria was very clearly visible. At the moment, there are no such dangers, because we watched the successes of the Ukrainian forces in Kherson, even the fact that they pushed back the army of invaders across the river. Therefore, at the moment, we do not see a direct threat of an escalation of the conflict, a war in Transnistria. In Transnistria itself, the situation is tense, but at the same time we see concerns at the level of the population, as well as at the level of the so-called administration there. In general, those who are there do not want an escalation. We see it both in dialogue and in behavior. As long as we managed to maintain stability, I hope that it will be maintained in the future,” Ihor Grosu noted.

Regarding the remains of the rocket found on the territory of the Republic of Moldova on Saturday after a new wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine, Ihor Grosu said that this is the third such case.

“All the actions we have taken so far – and this has caused a wave of criticism from the fifth column, which, unfortunately, we have done – these were the right actions. We almost doubled the defense budget. We still have a long way to go to properly secure the airspace, to protect it. The fact that we are a neutral state according to the Constitution does not exempt us from the obligation to invest in defense. We will continue to do this with our resources and with the help of our partners. (…) We are also in constant communication with the Romanian side, we are also in constant contact with the Ukrainian side, because they help us control the airspace. Of course, the greatest danger is the Black Sea, because every time the fleet of the aggressor state of the Russian Federation goes to sea, surprises await us, so to speak. Usually, when Vinnytsia, Lviv, Odesa are bombed, the danger for us also increases,” he said.

Ihor Grosu noted that the Republic of Moldova is interested in ensuring energy security, given that the country has been subject to an “unprecedented wave of cyberattacks” since last fall. He also clarified that the authorities are also interested in investments in defense capability.

According to the official, for the Republic of Moldova “the main risk is connected with bombings”, which occur every five to seven days. He noted that the Russian bombings are targeting energy infrastructure in Ukraine, which could affect the electricity supply of the Republic of Moldova, but noted that the authorities are better prepared than last winter, and thanked Romania for its support, including 130,000 cubic meters. meters of the proposed wood.

“My colleagues are in constant contact with colleagues from Romania. The incident a month ago, when the system went down, fortunately showed us that in record time, with cooperation, the entire country can be restored, I think, within hours. (…) We diversified the sources of gas supply. We have our own operator – the state company “Energocom”, which purchases. At the moment, we do not consume – the right bank – a single cubic meter of gas from Gazprom. We were able to find a solution in record time. We have learned how to buy gas, and this is also thanks to the fact that we cooperate well with Western and Romanian partners. Things are going well with electricity at the moment. The Kuchurgan power plant has started to produce products,” Ihor Grosu noted.

The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova expressed confidence that the authorities of Chisinau will be able to purchase medicines from Romania after securing internal reserves.

“I know that there are discussions at the level of health ministers. The minister made a request: when the reserves or what is needed for Romania are reached, the first country that could take advantage of this surplus, so to speak, should be the Republic of Moldova. I think he will find a way out. (…) Medicines are available (in the Republic of Moldova – not). Stocks allow us to meet the challenge, and we will certainly appeal to the World Health Organization, we will also call on other platforms, other partners to respond to this challenge,” he said.

Ihor Grosu also assessed that the performance dedicated to the Day of National Culture, which took place at the Bucharest National Opera, is “important” because “culture is the main link that unites the two Romanian states.”

“We think the same, we understand each other – the same language, the same history, the same culture. That’s why we’re here,” he said.
