Finding nothing suspicious, the check was completed late Thursday evening. Emirates flight EK209who, on his way to New York, returned to Athens after receiving information from the US authorities that a man of Arab descent suspected of terrorism might have boarded him.

According to EL.AS, all passengers were checked, but neither the person to whom the information related nor anything else suspicious was identified.

It is recalled that, according to the US authorities, the “suspicious” person could board one of two Emirates flights, one to Dubai and the other to New York.

After the Greek authorities were informed, the Dubai-bound plane was stopped Thursday afternoon before takeoff and the passengers were subsequently checked, but nothing came of it.

As for flight EK209, which was bound for New York, it returned to Athens shortly before 22:00, escorted by two F-16 fighters, as provided for in the relevant protocol. The alert ended shortly before midnight as nothing suspicious was found.

“The Greek Police Headquarters informs that, in the context of investigating information about the presence of a suspicious person on one of the two flights of a well-known company that departed this afternoon (10/11/2022), from Athens International Airport “E-mail. Venizelos”, by decision of the Committee Airport security was ordered to return one flight and not to fly another.

Subsequently, the Greek police services conducted an inspection of all passengers, as well as the aircraft, but without identifying the person to whom the information related, or anything else suspicious.
