The intervention of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, was prompted by the acquittal of a 30-year-old youth by the Chalcis court accused of cruelty to a cat in a tavern in Edipsos.
Recall that in May last year a young man lured an unsuspecting cat with a fish to him, and then kicked her, throwing her into the sea.
The incident provoked a personal reaction from the Minister for the Protection of Citizens, Takis Theodorikakos, as well as the intervention of the prosecutor, as a result of which the 30-year-old man was brought to justice and tried. Then a few days ago (October 19, 2022), the three-member Criminal Court of Chalkis acquitted the perpetrator. After that, Mr. Dogiakos requested the decision of the Chalcis court to examine whether there had been a misinterpretation of the law on the protection of animals.
