The child had no known health problems, but appeared to have a cerebral arteriovenous malformation that decompensated and ruptured during the flight (his first airplane trip) and caused the first cerebral hemorrhage.
Unfortunately, a second followed within the next 24 hours. Due to the malformation, the risk of subsequent brain hemorrhages is very high.
Stefan is currently hospitalized at the Center of Excellence in Neurosurgery in Maastricht. The forecast is so far restrained, but there are high hopes. Doctors there conducted research and, after consulting with colleagues and other centers, found a way to approach the deep-seated malformation.
Fortunately, the child is relatively well versed in cognition, recognizes his relatives and friends, communicates with them, orients himself in space and time, makes simple mathematical calculations.
Unfortunately, student health insurance covers only emergency and not medical intervention, the cost of which reaches several tens of thousands of euros. In addition to medical expenses, there are also expenses for the maintenance of Stefan’s family in the Netherlands.
