Andros measures his wounds from the weather

The passage of bad weather on Andros has been disastrous, especially Wednesday’s storm causing serious problems on the island. Mayor Dimitris Lotsaris spoke to ERT about the devastation on Andros and ongoing restoration work.

“Especially in her area you were water we had a lot of damage. On Wednesday, weather conditions were more intense, with heavy rains creating many problems,” the mayor of the island said.

As Mr. Kotsaris noted, local authorities were immediately mobilized to be able to repair the damage caused by lightning and the water turbine. “The central provincial network was disrupted due to landslides and material transport,” he said.

The problem is big, as the island has a network of dirt roads over a large area, as a result of which the municipality’s crews have to repair damage for many kilometers.

He said that he had submitted a request to the Civil Protection Service to declare a part of the island, or rather the municipal community of Hydrous, in a state of emergency.
