The project, which is part of the strategic planning of the Attica region for the aesthetic, environmental and road modernization of the metropolitan infrastructure of Attica, concerns the installation of 23,790 LED lights on the most important avenues of Attica with a total budget of 36.9 million euros with funding from the region under the Attica Regional Operational Program for 2014–2021.
The new LED lighting is more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
The new artery lighting effectively contributes to improving road safety, as visibility is significantly improved at night, and at the same time it is more environmentally friendly, energy efficient and recyclable.
The lamps are fully controlled via a remote control system, which means that they can receive real-time data on their status (work – consumption). Also, the new lighting housings with the new LED technology have a rated power of 42W, compared to the old 400W, and work without problems for about 100,000 hours, i.e. 7 years, while the old ones required changing bulbs. Every year.
At the same time, according to the estimates of the authorities, more than 1.5 million euros can be saved annually by using new lamps.
Patoulis: Attica gets a modern and safe road network with energy benefits and a strong environmental impact.
In a statement, Attica Regional Governor Yorgos Patoulis said that “we are realizing our strategic goal of an energy and environmentally modernized road network that will operate safely for every user. Taking into account the data available from the competent authorities of the region and, of course, from the road service, we carry out large-scale interventions on the entire road network under our responsibility.”
“Replacing the old type of lighting is an intervention that, combined with new asphalt pavement, upgrades to parapets, pedestrian crossings and the use of innovative speed limiting applications, improves road safety, especially at night, which will soon be measured by relevant traffic accident rates. ”, he added.
