Simona Halep will lose her place in the WTA rankings after withdrawing from WTA Cincinnati

Our athlete will drop one step in the WTA ranking, which will be published on Monday, August 22. Thus, Halep will be the 7th in the world.

Cincinnati semi-finalist (where she will meet Caroline Garcia) Aryna Sabalenko overtook Simona Halep in the WTA Live rankings.

Halep could beat Jessica Pegula, but the American was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Cincinnati.

As for the first three places, the situation will remain unchanged: Iga Sviatek (1), Anette Kontaveit (2) and Maria Sakkari (3).

On August 29, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, will start in New York.

Iga Sviatek will be the main favourite, while Simona Halep is seen by the bookies as a second chance to win the title at Flushing Meadows. The Romanian’s best result at the US Open was reaching the semifinals at the 2015 tournament (she defeated future champion Flavia Pennetta).
