Super surprise in the first round of the French Open, where Daniil Medvedev lost 7-6(5) 6-7(6) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Brazilian Thiago-Seibut Wilde – in the middle of a storm wind – an exception to the event.

The Russian, world number 2, failed to show his game in… the windswept Philippe Chatrier, where he looked increasingly frustrated as time went on and argued with the referee and spectators.

Seibut-Wald had too much speed and power against Medvedev, who never lived up to his standards and… capitulated after four hours and 15 minutes. “I’ve been watching Daniel play since I was a kid and beating him on a field like this is a dream come true,” said the world’s 172nd Brazilian.

Medvedev broke his opponent’s serve early in the first set, but was disappointed in the fourth set when the Brazilian forced a tie-break in which he prevailed. Wiping the dust from his eyes, he filed for a set at 6:5, and Medvedev immediately coped with the return.

The Brazilian continued to put pressure on the Russian in the second set, and the red clay continued to swirl around the court. Medvedev saved two set points in the second tie-break, and on the first set point of the Russian Seybot Wild from the open area shot wide.

Zaibut Wild lost the third set and sought medical attention for a nosebleed and finger problems. But he picked up his…pieces in the fourth set, leveling the score at 2-2 in a 6-3 game.

The Brazilian kept up the momentum by opening the score 2-0, and although Medvedev pulled back 3-3, Seybot Wilde made another 4-3 dash. He maintained his lead and pulled off a massive win 6-4 and 3-2 in sets.
