Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Russian paramilitary group “Wagner”, on Tuesday reacted angrily to the address of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, accusing those “dismissed” from this institution of allowing the attack of Ukrainian drones on Moscow.
“Infectious beasts. What you do? (…) Get your asses out of the offices where you were sent to defend this country. You are the Ministry of Defense (…) Why the hell did you allow these drones to reach Moscow?” Prigozhin wrote in Telegram, reports EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.
“As a citizen, I am deeply outraged that these objections remain silent (…) That is why I believe that the people have every right to bring these shameless people to justice,” the Wagner leader continued in the address, which also contains other offensive statements on the address of the Russian military.
Expressing concern over Tuesday’s drone attack, which Russia’s Defense Ministry directly attributed to Ukraine, Prigozhin complained that Russia was “years, if not decades” behind in drone development.
Some of the drones used in the attack on Moscow fell in the residential quarters of Russian army officers, in particular in Rublyovka, a prestigious district in the west of Moscow, not far from Putin’s residence in Novo-Ogaryovo.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a total of eight drones were used in this attack, and all of them were shot down and the damage was “minor”, with only two people slightly injured.
The EFE agency noticed that the GPS systems did not work in Moscow for several hours, probably due to the activation of drone jammers.
As in other attacks on Russian territory, Kyiv denies any involvement, and an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reacted sarcastically, saying that “artificial intelligence” had configured Russian drones against those who launched them over Ukraine.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the “Wagner group”, became the most visible representative of the close circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin 15 months after the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine. A former caterer for the Russian president, who earned him the nickname “Putin’s cook”, Prigozhin joked that he was better known as “Putin’s butcher” after the success of his front-line group. siege of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, which he managed to capture this month after bloody battles with the Ukrainian army.
