Tournaments won by Anduhar: Casablanca (2011, 2012), Gstaad (2014) and Marrakech (2018).

He played in 5 other finals: Bucharest (2010, 2011), Stuttgart (2011), Barcelona (2015) and Marrakech (2019).

Pablo Andujar retires from tennis at the age of 37

After being eliminated in the first round of the competition in Barcelona (2-6, 5-7 against Thomas Martin Etcheverry), Andujar confirmed in a press conference that he will probably not play in the ATP tournament again. Pablo has lost 12 of the last 14 matches played.

“Honestly, I want to play my last match in Valencia, in the Challenger, which we have been organizing at Club de Tenis Valencia since last year. I’m no longer ranked on the ATP circuit, so I’m dependent on the invitations I receive.

I will continue to train, but at the moment my priorities are different, so if this is my last match on the circuit, I will gladly accept it. If this does not happen and I am given a wildcard, then it will be in places where I experienced very strong emotions. Barcelona is one of those cities where I experienced incredible moments.

I always gave 100%. Maybe if you ask me this question in three years, I won’t say the same thing, but today I’m empty, nothing more can be given to me. My head started telling me last year that I had other priorities.

When I came back from injury, I put in a lot of effort and it showed in the end because I am quite old, although there are colleagues of the same age who are still playing at a high level. If you had asked me when I started playing, I would never have thought that I would still be active at 37″ – Pablo Andujarquoted by PuntoDeBreak.

Pablo Andujar positive result against Roger Federer

In 2021, Andujar won his only match against Roger Federer 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16 in Geneva.

“It’s very difficult to pick just one memorable match, but definitely the match against Federer, it was an impressive moment in my career, especially because we had not met before. To play against him was already a dream, to beat Federer was a double dream” – Pablo Andujar.

How tennis has changed over the past 20 years

“Now they play faster, the players are much more physically prepared and more professional. But I don’t mean just the top 100, now there are 350 players who are super professionals, and before there weren’t any, the ones not in the top 100 weren’t that professional because they didn’t make as much money. It’s improved, now every player is an athlete, that’s the biggest change for me” – Pablo Andujar.

Spanish tennis has a solid future

“We are very lucky. To have a phenomenon like Carlitos Alcaraz, regardless of how well things are going at club, academy and federation level, I think it happens… I thought it was once in a lifetime (laughs).

With Rafa leaving, to have another world leader, and one with such charisma, is truly incredible. There is no explanation for Spanish tennis, it is a blessing for all of us who love tennis.

Carlos is above all, but we also have (Alejandro) Davidovic, (Martin) Landaluse, (Daniel) Rincon, (Bernabe) Zapata, Pedrito (Martinez) and so on. We have a large reserve of players, I don’t know if we will ever have as many players as there were in my time” – Pablo Andujar.
