FBI Investigating Former Navy Officer – Links to Pro-Russian Account

The FBI is investigating a former US Navy petty officer who maintained a social media account linked to the distribution of classified intelligence documents allegedly leaked by airman Jack Teixeira, US officials said Monday.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that a woman named Sarah Beals, while in uniform, ran various pro-Russian profiles.

“He is under an active federal investigation,” a U.S. spokesman said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the investigation are unclear at this time.

It is noted that she herself admitted on Saturday that she really is the administrator of the Donbass Girl account in Telegram, where she reprinted four confidential documents from online chats.

Also, a network of social media accounts called Donbass Girl sold images of the Russian military paramilitary group Wagner to raise money for the Russian military. Some of this fundraising even took place while Sarah Beals was still in the US Navy.

“I didn’t leak any documents”

Ms. Bills told the WSJ Monday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which dispatched agents to her home in Oak Harbor, Washington on Sunday, was investigating the death threats she received and the leak of classified documents. However, she pointed out that she was not the only administrator of the site where the documents appeared to have been leaked.

“I have been honest with the FBI and NCIS about the access I had to this particular account,” she said, adding that no documents were leaked from her.

It is noted that last week the Department of Justice accused pilot Jack Teixeira of unauthorized storage and transmission of national defense information, as well as unauthorized removal and storage of classified documents or materials.

Prosecutors are expected to present some of the evidence gathered against him at a hearing Wednesday in Boston. On Monday, public defenders representing him did not respond to requests for comment.
