“The Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation left for the headquarters of the Dnepr military unit in the Kherson region,” the report says.

This is Putin’s first visit to the Kherson region since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Russian president met there with the commander of the Russian Airborne Forces, General Mikhail Teplinsky, and other senior military officials to discuss the situation in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, which Russia announced annexation in September.

“It is important for me to know your point of view on the situation, to listen to you, to exchange information,” the Russian president said in a Kremlin video broadcast.

The Russian army left the city of Kherson, the capital of the region of the same name, in November 2022 to transfer to the other side of the Dnieper.

According to the Kremlin, Putin also visited the Lugansk region in eastern Ukraine, also his first visit there, to meet with members of the General Staff of the Russian National Guard stationed in the region.
