The Czechs had serious complaints about refereeing the match with Greece. Blue and white were imposed with 94-88 team of Ronen Ginzburg and advanced to the quarterfinals EuroBasket.
However, both the team manager and Jan Vesely complained about some of the referees’ whistles. Both talked about different judging criteria.
“It’s no secret that FIBA referees are not very good and never show too much respect for the big stars. Vesely should have won one or two offensive fouls from Giannis. The problem was also that Greece made 29 attempts, and ours – 9. In the fourth period, when Greece played aggressively in defense, they did not have a single foul or just one foul for a long time. I got a technical penalty for this, I wanted to highlight it. I won’t say that we lost because of these mistakes, but if we had played with another opponent, we would have received such whistles. Like other fouls,” commented the Czech coach in his hometown.
For his part, Gian Veseli reported some kind of foul, which was charged to Giannis Antetokounmpo: “It was at the limit. They could whistle on offensive fouls, and other times I set up late.”
Audrey Balvin advocated a different approach. “We are not the only team in the tournament that sees some players being treated differently because they are stars. There were questionable decisions with which we do not agree,” he commented characteristically.
Vsude good at home is the best.
“There are no secrets that FIBA international referees are not even that good.” Ronen Ginzburg.https://t.co/X2g9SdPc08
