Elina Dzhengo won the gold medal in the javelin throw at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The Greek athlete, who is trained by Giorgos Bostariev, had the best throw of 65.81 meters, which she scored in the second attempt.
This performance is a new individual record for the 19-year-old in her first major women’s event. Jango won a silver medal at the U20 World Championships last year and also became the European champion in this age category.
The athlete, who turns 20 in a few days, also won a gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Elina Dzhengo started her competition with a throw of 60.82 meters and then set a personal best.
The young thrower missed on the third attempt and then threw the javelin at 59.40 meters. The fifth attempt turned out to be unsuccessful for the young athlete, who completed the competition with a throw of 64.57 meters.
Adriana Vilagos won the silver medal with a throw of 62.01 meters. Barbora Spotakova climbed to the third step of the podium.
Greece won five medals at the tournament in Munich. Jengo’s gold was 4 for our country in a German city. It is noted that a few hours ago, Antigoni Drisbiotis climbed to the highest step of the podium in the 20 km run.
