FIFA banned the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) for “serious violations and third party interference”.
In May, India’s Supreme Court dissolved the country’s Football Association. A committee of three was then appointed to govern the sport.
FIFA member associations must be free from legal and political interference.
FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) met with Indian football stakeholders and developed a roadmap. According to this roadmap, the federation had to change its rules and hold elections before September 15th.
“The Presidium of the FIFA Council unanimously decided to immediately disqualify the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) for improper third party influence, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes,” the statement said.
Due to punishment by the Football Association of India, the Women’s Under-17 World Cup, which was scheduled to start on 11 October, will not take place as scheduled.
