Elections 2023: April dilemmas for Maximos

Yesterday, government sources confirmed that all election dates have been open since April, following a “pre-election” and extended meeting that took place at the Maxim Palace regarding government planning for the next three months. According to a government leak, “the prime minister is consistent in his commitment to elections in 4 years” and “he will determine the appropriate date, starting in April.”

It may seem like the exact date doesn’t matter much – many wonder what the difference is between the beginning of April and the end – but that’s not entirely true, as the devil is known to be in the details. Passover, church service, weather, political climate are factors that can decisively influence elections and must be taken into account. The date that appears recently as the most common is April 9th. It’s the week before Easter and many say it’s ideal as those who go to vote will be able to combine it with being in the countryside for Holy Week. The argument is unconvincing, because if someone works, there is a risk that he would prefer an Easter trip, and not … an election trip, since it is difficult to make two trips in one week. In addition, according to the exclusive information of “K”, at yesterday’s meeting, an opinion was expressed, with which the Prime Minister seems to agree, that it is not good to conduct investigations during Holy Week, since “the people will not pay attention” and therefore on April 9 doesn’t seem like a prime choice.

“The Prime Minister is consistent in his intention to hold elections in 4 years,” government officials said.

On the contrary, April 2 has the advantage that survey work will be carried out a week before Easter, and then most of them will travel to the region, where, along with the roasting of the arrow, the corresponding kneading of the type of the second election will take place. In Maximos, because everyone calculates, they note that at big Easter parties it does not happen that there is not always someone who will support N.D. and Kyriakos Mitsotakis and say that this is not the time for experiments, which is the main argument of the government. This is also one of the reasons why many say that the first elections should be held on April 23: “Since the first elections are the most critical, it’s good that the Easter ferment preceded,” a government source tells K. , which offers as an ideal choice at the end of April.

As for the scenarios for the elections on March 26 or after May, they are not suitable, since the first is too early, and the second is too late and hardly “gets” into the pan-Greek elections if, for example, the first is held on April 30. . In any case, the prime minister will weigh all the facts presented above and make a final decision in March, which is also the most likely month for the dissolution of the Greek Parliament.

The focus of the meeting

The topic of yesterday’s meeting at the Maximos Palace was the planning of the legislative work and bills that the ministries are working on, as the prime minister wants the government to continue working until the end of the term. Also at the meeting, the topic of the report and presentation of the work of the government by sectors was raised so that all this accumulated work was not lost in the confrontation of the pre-election period and was brought to the attention. Further, the main principles of the program for the next 4 years were discussed with an emphasis on wage increases, while a presentation of regional development programs was planned, with projects already implemented and planned. Finally, we discussed the preparation of the program for the tour of the Prime Minister, ministers and party workers.
