The coalition will decide this week whether to raise local taxes by increasing the tax base by 50%. According to cited sources, PSD and PNL were unable to reach an agreement with local government representatives on tax increases. “We are thinking about taking into account the rejection of the Decree in the Chamber of Deputies and abandoning this measure for the time being,” quoted sources said.

The law on raising taxes is being discussed in the parliament. In the Senate, the PSD-PNL-UDMR submitted an amendment that would have increased the taxable amount by 50%.

In early October, SDP mayors informed the Coalition leadership that they do not agree with the property tax formula.

At the same time, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said that the version of establishing these taxes by notarial grids has been postponed, after the local authorities warned that this cannot be achieved by the end of 2022.

A coalition meeting is to be held this week, where the PSD, PNL and UDMR leaders have several important topics on the agenda, such as pension increases and energy market regulation.
