The liberals demand that the PSD urgently appoint the candidate for the Minister of Defense, which remained vacant after the resignation of Vasile Dinka. PNL leaders say that any further negotiations between the ministries will not benefit anyone at this time.

“I do not understand this anger of the Social Democrats, because the decision is theirs. No one can influence them or impose a certain name for this portfolio. I believe that their nomination should happen as soon as possible, if not urgently. Because, you see, Romania is part of some military commitments, some commitments taken in relation to NATO, especially now, when the war is going on at the borders of our country. The defense portfolio must get a titular minister, and the PSD has full freedom to determine what criteria and who are the people who can apply for this position,” PNL spokesman Jonutz Stroe said on Tuesday.

Asked if the PNL ruled out any possible talks to reshuffle ministers before next May’s elections, Straw said stability was needed for now.

“We talked about responsibility and stability, if we are on the threshold of a winter with overlapping crises in the field of energy, inflation, security, to restore the political dialogue to do this, we are all wrong, and I think we can lose valuable time for that , in order to be as responsible as possible for the winter that will soon begin. That is why I say that at the moment, consistency in government action, stability and accountability are what should define government action. I don’t think anyone can afford a long period of political negotiations or resettlement or changes at the government level right now,” he said.

Defense Minister Vasile Dinku resigned on Monday, citing an inability to cooperate with President Klaus Iohannis.

Prime Minister Nikolae Chuke assumed the temporary position.

The PSD is not in a hurry to nominate yet, planning to exchange ministries with the Liberals.
