Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Wednesday that “extremely brutal fighting” was taking place “near Bakhmut”, a city in eastern Ukraine in the Donetsk region, which has been a priority target of the Russian military for many months, AFP reported.

“The situation at the front does not change significantly. “Extremely fierce fighting is taking place in Donetsk region, near Bakhmut and Avdiyivka,” he said in his daily speech posted on social media.

On Tuesday, seven civilians were killed in Bakhmut, and three more were wounded, reported the governor of the region, Pavlo Kyrylenko.

Fighting between the Ukrainian and Russian armies is wreaking havoc in the region, and Moscow’s forces are desperate after several setbacks since early September.

“The Russian occupiers have already lost so much equipment – aviation and other, which the majority of the world’s armies simply do not have and will never have in service,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to him, “Russia will not be able to compensate for these losses.”

Finally, he again condemned the “madness of the Russian command”, which, he said, was especially “noticeable” in the east of the country, “sending people to their deaths (…) day after day”.
