PSD President Marcel Çolaku said at a press conference on Monday that the government can intervene in the market to set a maximum limit for any product if there is evidence that it will be speculated on.

When asked whether the government can limit the price of a product, Cholaku answered: “In crisis situations, yes. If the government thinks there is room for speculation, especially when you’re reaching out to the public, then yes. And I support it (…) If there is a mirror area on this product, yes, you have the right to intervene,” explained Cholaku.

When asked what a crisis situation is, the SDP president explained: “A crisis situation is something that happens in our lives. We should not read the crisis situation. We see it as it happens on your TV. For a limited time, governments have this option, and I think it is right. When it has a large impact on the population, the government is even obliged to intervene in the situation for a limited period. We are not going with another regime.”

The PSD chairman’s explanation comes after the government decided to cap the price of wood at 400 lei per cubic meter last week.
