After the failure of Sunday’s rally, which was overshadowed by the counter-protest organized by Diana Shoshoake, the AUR leaders are trying to explain that in fact the demonstration was a “real success”, but the party leadership decided to “sacrifice” it because “the system organized a counter-demonstration”.

  • “It was clear that AUR is a force, the protest on Sunday was a real success, AUR mobilized in Bucharest, which far exceeded the expectations of the authorities.
  • Unfortunately, I saw a completely disproportionate reaction of the authorities, the gendarmerie, for no reason, inexplicably, dozens, hundreds of law enforcement officers, in masks, armed men were involved.
  • The gendarmes with tear gas were brought out in plain sight, it is not clear, because until now the AUR has always demonstrated peacefully.
  • Considering that the reaction of the authorities was completely disproportionate, the AUR leaders decided to sacrifice this protest, especially since in Piaţa Victoriei the system organized a counter-demonstration, which, from what I observed on the ground, the gendarmerie seemed to protect this counter-demonstration, so the AUR leaders decided to sacrifice this protest,” MP Dan Tanase, quoted by Agerpres, said on Tuesday.

AUR senator Rodic Boanca also found the culprit: the PSD, which “tried to divide the Romanians at the protest by throwing an arrow into the game that was being protected by law enforcement.”

On Sunday afternoon, several thousand people, at most 3 thousand, gathered at the rally organized by the AUR on the University Square. “This is a protest of the Romanian people,” shouted George Simion, who then arrived with his supporters at Victory Square after blocking Mageru Boulevard. The government had a surprise: Diana Shoshoake and about 300 people were waiting for them. This did not last long, and a scandal broke out in both camps, which required the intervention of the gendarmes. Then Simion led his men down Kiselev, surrounded by gendarmes, to the PSD and PNL headquarters. When they returned to the government, they found Sosoake still there, still on stage, still at the microphone, with his supporters. But in the meantime, someone brought the stage to Simeon as well.
