
European People’s Party (EPP) President Manfred Weber said on Sunday in Sofia that Bulgaria and Romania should finally become members of the Schengen area and that they are still waiting, along with Croatia, for a final decision on the matter to be taken by the EU Council.
“One of the main messages I sent is that Bulgaria and Romania should finally become members of the Schengen area,” Weber said, according to a post by Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan, the formation’s vice president.
The President of the EPP noted that he made a trip to Bulgaria before the October 2 parliamentary elections to express his support for the GERB faction.
“We in the European Parliament have always supported this, we have always fought for Bulgaria to become a full member, and I am sure that with the EPP government in Sofia we will restore control over external borders, migration issues, as it was before. Weber said.
“Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania meet the conditions to join the Schengen area and are still awaiting a final decision by the EU Council. Their place is in the Schengen zone. You have the full support of the European People’s Party,” Weber also conveyed
