“This is dangerous nuclear rhetoric. This is not something new, he has already done this several times. We will remain calm and continue to support Ukraine,” Jens Stoltenberg said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He wanted to clarify that NATO will not resort to dangerous and reckless actions, like those of Vladimir Putin.

In an interview with the editor-in-chief of the Reuters agency, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance said that the first mobilization in Russia since the Second World War is not a surprise, but it will lead to an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. began with the Russian invasion on February 24.

According to Stoltenberg, the decisions announced by Putin on Wednesday morning demonstrate “that the war is not going according to his plans”, and it is clear that the Russian leader made a “big mistake”.

Russia’s president announced a “partial mobilization” of reserves on Wednesday morning, paving the way for a major escalation in the war in Ukraine as Moscow loses ground on the battlefield. The head of the Kremlin warned that Russia is ready to use “all its means of protection”, including nuclear, to “defend itself”.

“We will make sure that there are no misunderstandings in Moscow about how exactly we will react. Of course, it depends on what situation or what weapon they can use. The most important thing is to prevent this, and that is why we have stated so clearly in our communications with Russia about the unprecedented consequences,” Jens Stoltenberg emphasized, referring to any use of nuclear weapons by Moscow.

According to the leader of the North Atlantic Alliance, it is difficult to see a short-term solution until Russia recognizes Ukraine as a sovereign state. (Source: Agerpres)
