PSD Deputy Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu says no one wants the UDMR out of government, but Union leaders must come up with an explanation for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s statements, which they consider “racist”. He commented that UDMR ministers are “good professionals” and this is one of the explanations why PSD wants to fight together with Kelemen Hunor’s formation.
“An answer from the UDMR should come, because the statements of the Prime Minister of Hungary made there, I would use one word, were racist from my point of view, and not only from my point of view. And I saw not only in Romania, I saw other international positions.(…) I saw the statement of Marco Bela, the former president of the UDMR, who said that more clarifications were needed and that he expected the leaders of the UDMR to do the same. This clarification is necessary. If this is done, no one wants the UDMR to leave the government. (…) but I want clarification. This week there was a meeting of the Government, colleagues from the UDMR, most of them, probably in the week that they took, to get leave This is not a question that should be avoided. I believe that this will be discussed at the first meeting of the coalition. I also had a president of my party (Marcel Cholaku no) who was in a special condition, he had COVID, that’s why this weekly coalition meeting was not held, but it will be held,” said Sorin Grindyanu on Prima TV on Sunday.
UDMR ministers are “good professionals”
When asked why the PSD wanted to govern together with the UDMR, given that together with the PNL and the minorities it has a majority, the first vice-president of the PSD replied that the ministers of the UDMR are “good professionals”.
“You should know that I allow myself to speak about my colleagues in the Government, it’s not pretty what they do, but they are good professionals. The relationship that I, at least as the Minister of Transport, have with my colleagues from UDMR in the Government is very good and I I want it to continue. Every time we have joint projects, because we are talking about the Ministry of Development, with which we interact a lot, and also with the Ministry of Natural Resources, when we have joint projects, every time it is a joint effort, and I would be very it’s a pity that I should be removed from the Government. I do not agree with that. As long as they are there, the absolutely necessary clarifications are and will be,” added PSD First Vice-President Sorin Grindeanu
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Tushnád that a new Western strategy is needed to end the war in Ukraine, while saying that the Russians’ speech should be taken seriously.
Viktor Orban also believes that the supply of modern weapons to Ukraine will only prolong the war, and the conflict can be stopped only after Russian-American negotiations.
At the same time, Viktor Orbán also stated: “Because there is a world in which the peoples of Europe are mixed with the peoples outside Europe. It’s a mixed race world. And we have a mixture of peoples from inside Europe: they move, work, move. (…) We are ready to mix with each other, but we do not want to become a mixed race.”
UDMR President Kelemen Hunor does not consider Viktor Orbán’s speech in Băile Tuşnad racist or Putinist, and he understands that any statement should be interpreted in context. The leader of the UDMR stated that he knows the Prime Minister of Hungary very well, has spoken with him several times and does not see any sign of racism in him, and the fact that he wants peace does not make him a “Putinist”. Kelemen Hunor also commented on the statements of the Prime Minister of Hungary, which are considered anti-European and anti-NATO. (sources: news.ro, Agerpres)
