The visit will provide an opportunity for the first direct bilateral meeting between the two heads of state after the historic decision taken at the European Council on June 23-24, 2022, which granted the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country for accession. to the European Union, the Presidential Administration notes.

Iohannis will once again confirm Bucharest’s strong support for the promotion of the reform process in the Republic of Moldova, which is necessary to fulfill the goals set by the European Commission’s Conclusion of June 17, 2022.

In addition to the topic of supporting Chisinau’s European path, regional events in the context of the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and ways to counter its negative consequences for the Republic of Moldova will be discussed.

Iohannis will emphasize the multidimensional assistance that Romania provides to the Republic of Moldova, including for the resolution of crisis situations that it faces, and specific ways of determining priorities and diversifying this assistance will be discussed, the quoted source said.
