44-year-old actress and singer Shonka Duquereh, who played Big Mama Thornton in the movie “Elvis,” was found dead at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, according to Sky News and CNN.

Shonka Duquereh was found unconscious by one of the two young children she lived with in her apartment in Nashville, Tennessee, the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.

Shonka Ducurech, who played Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, the R&B singer who was the first recording artist to cover the song “Hound Dog” in the recently released Baz Luhrmann movie “Elvis,” died Thursday, Nashville police said.

According to preliminary information, the actress was not the victim of a crime and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, police added.

The role of the artist, who was made famous by Elvis Presley, was the first major appearance in the cinema of the actress Shonka Dookure.

Shonka Duquereh appears on the Elvis soundtrack and appears in the video for the song Doja Cat Vegas, also from the soundtrack.
